Content moderationReviewing user-generated content to ensure that it complies with a platform’s T&C as well as with legal guidelines. See also: Content Moderator online is central in many debates today—about free speech and safety, business, democracy, and even national security and geopolitics. From landmark regulations like Section 230 in the US and the Digital Services Act (DSA) in the EU, to high-stakes legal battles and shifting corporate policies such as the recent ones announced by Zuckerberg for Meta, the rules of online governance continuously evolve.
This event, organised in collaboration by Tremau, the MIT Alumni Association of the UK and the INSEAD AI Alumni-led Community, will unpack some core principles and practices for content moderation. We will explore how fairness and due process may fit into today’s regulatory frameworks, examine the challenges of content moderation during crises—from elections to pandemics—and discuss what companies are actually doing in practice in this space.
We will be joined by:
– Theodoros Evgeniou – Co-founder at Tremau. He is also Professor of Technology and Business at INSEAD where he directs executive training programs on AI. He has been a World Economic Forum Academic Partner for AI and a member of the OECD Network of Experts on AI. He holds two BS, an M.Eng and a PhD from MIT.
– Martin Husovec, Associate Professor of Law at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He specializes in intellectual propertyInventions, literary or artistic work, designs, names, etc., are considered intellectual property and are protected by law through patents, copyright, and trademarks. This system allows people to earn from what they have created as well as protects their intellectual property from being stolen. law, digital rights, and EU law, with a focus on platform regulation, innovation policy, and freedom of expression.
– Agne Kaarlep – Managing Director of Policy and Advisory at Tremau, where she helps online services meet the demands of the new regulatory environment. Before Tremau, Agne worked in the European Commission, where she wrote and negotiated the Digital Services Act and the Terrorist Content Online Regulation. She also led the Commission’s work on the EU Internet Forum, and worked on the cooperation on platform governance under the EU-US Trade and Technology Council.
– Ludo Van der Heyden – INSEAD Chaired Professor Emeritus of Corporate Governance, founding Academic Director of the INSEAD Corporate Governance Center, and of several of the Center’s core educational programs. He specializes in corporate governance, collaboration, and fairness in business. He also is Chairman of a software company and a member of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine.
